2021 September "Viking" Caftan

March of 2020 I had the idea to buy a bunch of fabric to make Viking garb worthy of Crown Tourney and the man fighting for me. At the time, I didn't realize how much things would change. Now, eighteen-ish months later, while in a house a state away and no longer a consort, I've finally pulled the fabric out to make garb. The goal is garb for myself, though, and not garb made to match someone else. This will be my colors, or colors of choice, and for my reasons.

The reason today is that I'm going to be cold if I don't make some warmer garb. Hence, Viking caftan. I've done something like this before but it did not turn out, well. Pictured below.

Today I started measuring and cutting out fabric. The rose colored fabric is from Marden's in South Portland or Sanford, ME (I can't remember). A burn test shows that it is not 100% wool, but a mix of wool and polyester. The teal is a linen blend from Z-Fabrics in Portland, ME that caught my eye. The contrast of the two colors caught my eye.

Sometimes I like chaos contrast.

Not a fan of the feel of wool on skin and wanting something that draped a bit heavier than the fabric itself, I decided the teal would make a great lining for the inner part of the caftan. Any leftover would be used for trim.

Argos isn't helping.
