Welcome to my blog! In the Society for Creative Anachronism my persona is known as Muirgel Bera. Her background is a daughter of a wealthy family found in Northumbria. Muirgel is pictured below in the only picture I have of me in garb (at all), from the hotel room at Birka 2020.
In the mundane world I currently work as a sailor and have a fascination with fiber arts. Prior to my joining the SCA in 2018, I was attempting to start a dye garden with concerns of what I was going to do with all the yarn I dyed. When I found the SCA through my then boyfriend, I found an outlet for the things I already had interest in, plus a means of finding new and exciting hobbies.

This blog is hopefully going to be a means of keeping track of my goals and projects. It's been over ten years since I've had to do really any research and I've been finding it difficult to keep a train of thought as I approach things, so maybe someone else new to the SCA may be comforted or inspired by my struggles.
Current Goals:
- Garb!
- Warp Weighted Loom
- Natural Dye
1. Garb!: Garb for Muirgel pretty much currently consists of t-tunics. My current dresses lack trim and are very basic. Goals will be tablet woven trim to jazz the dresses up and more in-depth research so that I can have a more historically accurate outfit. I'm also wanting to put together a "Viking" outfit for cold weather events and more Roman garb for hot weather events. I've enough fabric to be at this for a while.
2. Warp Weighted Loom: I'd really like to put together a warp weighted loom using materials I gather and prepare, however I no longer have access to a woods area where I can harvest my own lumber. The compromise will be to use purchased wood once I have a blueprint/plan in place. Once the loom is finished, obviously there will be weaving a plenty.
3. Natural Dye: Mushrooms, plants, etc. This will be a continuous collecting of various dye stuffs, as it's possible that I won't be able to find enough of one type of mushroom or what-have-you in a single season to dye enough.
I have a complete setup to do lampworking as well as enough glass to be at it for weeks straight, however I moved recently and do not have a safe place currently to melt the glass or use the kiln. That's all in a storage unit one state away, so it's not something that I'll have access to for a while. I think the biggest difficulty for me is going to be focusing on one thing.
